Panjab University discusses India's digital public infrastructure

India's advanced digital public infrastructure highlighted in Panjab University lecture

India’s progress in digital public infrastructure (DPI) was the main focus of a lecture at Panjab University (PU). Adil Zainulbhai, chairperson of the Capacity Building Commission, spoke about how India has some of the best digital infrastructure in the world. He explained that young Indian innovators have designed these systems, making public services more efficient and accessible. PU Vice-Chancellor Renu Vig presided over the event.

Digital innovation and UPI success

Zainulbhai said that Aadhaar was the first major step in building India’s digital infrastructure. It gave confidence that the country could create world-class digital systems. He cited the example of UPI transactions, which are the cheapest in India due to low data costs and minimal transaction fees. Other successful applications include the CoWIN app for vaccination, digital job portals, and direct benefit transfers. These systems have made government services faster and more affordable.
